Scooby Doo Mystery Inc. episode 17 review

Well, it's once again Tuesday night, and it is time for another episode of Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated.

Tonight's installment is titled "Escape from Mystery Manor" and promises to be one of the best episodes thus far in the season. From what i've read, this episode is going to have much of what made the original series(Scooby Doo Where Are You) so awesome.

This episode will deal with the dissapearance of the original Mystery Incorporated, whose last case was investigating the unsolved dissapearance(how about that, double dissapearances) of the Darrow family. Apparently, the Darrow family's mansion is now underground, and apparently we are going to get a Scooby Doo/Saw movie series crossover type of story.

This is exactly the type of episode I know I have been looking forward to for a long time; it is exactly what Scooby Doo is supposed to be, and was supposed to be back in the 60s. However, because the show was intended for kids, after the show was pitched to CBS, they turned it down because they thought it would be too frightening.

Thankfully Hanna and Barbera were able to repurpose the show and repitch it to CBS; naturally the show became a hit because of this, and it is still airing to this day. After Scooby Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby Doo fans were hoping the real ghosts and monsters thing, and the dark direction the franchise was going would continue.

But alas, things changed in 2002 or so, and now we have Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. And now, we have an episode that is exactly what Scooby is supposed to be like: scary, and some horror, along with just the right pinch of humor to make the show perfect.

7:29 PM: Show Time!

7:29 PM: Halloween huh, sounds interesting

7:30 PM: Considering the screen looks like that, I can see that its decades ago.

7:30 PM: Geez, talk about a Family Feud; somebody get Richard Dawson or Richard Karn on the phone.

7:30 PM: Uh oh

7:31 PM: WOW!!! Just like the Fall of the House of Usher huh?

7:31 PM: Angel Dynamite again; cool

7:31 PM: Angel Dynamite definitely has something to do with the mystery...

7:32 PM: No E? Huh?

7:32 PM: That Ricky was definitely Shaggy, before Shaggy of course

7:33 PM: Back to the college...

7:33 PM: Velma... Yeah, I got nothing...

7:33 PM: I don't think Santa's been down it for a while? Yeah...

7:33 PM: Time to drop out of college; love that line...

7:34 PM: Uh oh... spooky voice on the radio...

7:34 PM: So far so good... So, the paper said Mystery Inc. disappeared in the caves, but that diary said they were investigating the mansion... So which is it?

7:36 PM: That voice on the radio reminds me of The Shadow, or The Whistler or some spooky mystery man who stays in the shadows, not wanting to be found; now that's cool.

7:37 PM: Mr. Big Chin Man? HA!

7:38 PM: I think this guy's confused... or nuts... or just crazy... or all three...

7:38 PM: Traps? yeah, this guy's really confused...

7:39 PM: WOW!!! Spikes!!!

7:39 PM: Fred's actually pretty good at this...

7:40 PM: If they ever brought back Concentration, Fred would be a great contestant... He figured out that puzzle pretty quick...

7:40 PM: Fred's got a rival in trap making.... very interesting...

7:41 PM: Man, that place has more knives then a cutlery set...

7:41 PM: Big suprise... another trap....

7:41 PM: This reminds me of an old Josie and the Pussycats episode... the whole trapping each member of the gang in seperate traps...

7:42 PM: He's still really confused....

7:42 PM: A swimming pool? Hmm....

7:42 PM: Not underwater you can't Freddie...

7:43 PM: Time to show your true colors Fred, can you do it?

7:43 PM: Jeez Fred...

7:44 PM: Does he really know what he's doing, or is he just...

7:44 PM: Um Fred... Aren't you forgetting someone?

7:45 PM: Daphne better grow a tail... and soon...

7:45 PM: CPR? Daphne...

7:46 PM: Now let's check in on Velma, Shaggy and Scooby...

7:46 PM: And I think we know who the know it all is here...

7:46 PM: Don't answer that...

7:47 PM: Smooth move Velma...

7:47 PM: It's up to Scooby? OK...

7:47 PM: Velma actually gave Scooby a compliment... nice...

7:48 PM: That was easy... or not...

7:48 PM: He has a point there...

7:48 PM: Not bad Velma...

7:49 PM: Good luck with that...

7:49 PM: He's certainly no Orson Welles, that's for sure

7:49 PM: Danny Darrow huh? And he looks like a hermit... Not good...

7:52 PM: I can't tell if that's really Howling Mad Murdock or not...

7:53 PM: Let's see... he's still crazy... definitely

7:54 PM: Hey, it's a puzzle piece....

7:54 PM: If that's Dwight Schultz, he's perfect for this role...

7:54 PM: Fred... that's.... Um....

7:55 PM: Spray him with a hose?

7:55 PM: I think Fred's watched Braveheart way too many times

7:55 PM: Now that was funny

7:56 PM: So much for that...

7:56 PM: Fred and Danny Darrow talking traps; this could be a good radio show

7:56 PM: Being down in an underground mansion for 75 years can do that to you

7:57 PM: Wait... how did all his other family members grow old while he turned into a hermit?

7:58 PM: Cool, a mention of the original Mystery Inc.

7:58 PM: Fault Line? Oh boy, this can't be good...

7:58 PM: The gang better get out and soon...

7:58 PM: So Danny Darrow's just going to stay there... man, that sucks

7:59 PM: NO WAY!!! Fred's dad was spying on them? Is he involved somehow too?

7:59 PM: so there are more puzzle pieces out there possibly? The mystery thickens...

Well, let's see: we had some Mr. E plot development, mentions of the original Mystery Inc. and Fred's dad was spying on the gang; overall, a lot of questions to the Curse of Crystal Cove, but not too many answers, so it looks like we're going to have to unravel a lot more of this mystery before it gets close to being solved.

I'm stuck between giving this episode a 9 and a 10, so we'll just call it even and give this episode a 9.7; development for all the major plot lines, and a great mystery in a creepy haunted house setting to boot.

Back next week with another blog and another new episode... and next week promises to have some jealousy from Velma... Stay tuned...

This might've been better if we could do without Fred geeking out over the traps.

Absurdity of the week: Fred & Daphne had to have been soaking wet coming out of the pool, but unless they found a blow dryer down there, there's just no way they could've suddenly dried out when they rejoined the others.

Apparently the Mayor knows more about this case than he'd ever care to let on, and now we get an idea of why he and the other parents have been so against the gang taking up crime-solving. They don't want them to end up like the original Mystery Inc.. However, with the Mayor, there's always an ulterior motive.....
