The Evil Empire

For the those of you who are not familar with sports or are not sports fans, the title of this blog is a popular nickname for the New York Yankees baseball team who captured their 27th World Series championship last night. I am not nor have I ever been a Yankee fan, in fact ever year I wish they would finish in last place, the reasons for this are as follows:

Evey off-season the Yankees spend hundreds of millions of dollars on players that they hope will lead them to a world championship, most of the time that doesn't happen and before this year their last world title was in 2000. The Yankees are a prime example of what's wrong with professional sports in 2009, their belief is that they can simply buy a championship every year which is IMHO the main reason why there is not a salary cap in major league baseball but there is one in every other major sport. Also there are personal reasons as to why I dislike the Yankees: they defeated the Mariners in the ALCS in both 2000 and 2001, for the most I dislike any team that defeats any Seattle team in the playoffs.

Anyway hopefully the Seattle Mariners brass will read this and make the right moves to help them compete for a division title, a pennant and a World Championship in 2010. The fans of Seattle sure deserve one.
