Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated Episode 13 Review

Well, it's Monday night again and we have another new episode of Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated, tonight's installment is titled "When The Cicada Calls"; this is a bit of an interesting title, as most episodes in this series have been so far.

By the way, if you are not familar with what a Cicada is, it is a type of large insect if i'm not mistaken and I remember my biology correctly; if you aren't sure about what a Cicada is, go online or to wikipedia and do some research, or just ask Velma(just kidding).

On a bit of another subject, yours truly is currently watching some Scooby Doo DVDs right now, of course since it's the week of Halloween, I am having my annual Scooby Doo weeklong marathon so to speak; usually my tradition(since I started collecting Scooby Doo DVD's) is to watch as much Scooby as possible during this week leading up to Halloween, and so far i've watched three complete episodes, four after the one i'm watching right now.

Believe me, watching Scooby is one of the best shows or movies to watch around Halloween considering what the show's about, even if the ghosts and monsters are fake; after tonight there may or may not be a haitus before more new episodes of SDMI air, so far it looks like there will be a hiatus after tonight, but we shall see.

7:00 PM: Show Time; and how come there's no Warner Brothers logo before the teaser scene anymore?

7:00 PM: Man, that's one ominous voice

7:01 PM: The Destroido Corporation? weird

7:02 PM: Dang, that was a huge bug

7:02 PM: School Days, School Days... whoops, sorry about that

7:02 PM: Is that professor a reincarnation of Ben Ravencroft?

7:03 PM: Velma's at it again; man she's really turning out to be a jerk

7:03 PM: He's a dog, so why is he in the class anyway?

7:04 PM: Is Fred jealous of the teacher? Wow, that's new

7:04 PM: Mr. E can put notes in snack bags? Wish I could do that

7:04 PM: Gelatin with saltines and applesauce? Yuck!

7:05 PM: Fred asked Daphne on a date, and he blew it! Wah, wah, wah

7:06 PM; Man, the sheriff doesn't like bugs does he?

7:06 PM: It's official: Fred's dad is a real jerk***, come on man

7:07 PM: Now he's saying that they have no human decency? He is not a mayor that I would like to have as the mayor of my home town, that's for sure

7:08 PM: That is just nasty beyond all words

7:12 PM: That snack sounds absoutuely disgusting; fish oil and flax? yuck

7:13 PM: Grandma Moonbeam? figures Shaggy and Scooby would like a snack made by somebody named that, especially Shaggy

7:14 PM: Uh oh, he flatlined

7:15 PM: Trapped in the basement, that sucks

7:15 PM: Again, that is one creepy creature

7:15 PM: Fred actually makes sense for once, go figure

7:16 PM: Ooh, Fred's still jealous

7:17 PM: Dr. Yantz is a bit weird, huh?

7:17 PM: WOW! Did he say Girlfriend stealer? Dang, Fred really likes Daphne

7:18 PM: Does the mayor care about anything besides tourism, at all? he might be the real life Greg Nickels

7:18 PM: Cheesecake? who wants cheesecake at a time like this? wonder why they didn't say that in this episode?

7:19 PM: More bugs? Yuck

7:23 PM: The radio station again? cool

7:24 PM: Sounds like Fred and Daphne are a couple again

7:25 PM: Um, okay Fred, does his dad even care about him at all?

7:25 PM: That's funny, Shaggy and Scooby in a haunted house, and they aren't afraid?

7:27 PM: Nicely done Scooby Doo; it was Grandma Moonbeam? Didn't see that coming

7:27 PM: OK, that is disturbing

7:28 PM: Why can't the monster be real? Come on Mayor Jones, be careful for what you wish for

7:28 PM: Fred and Daphne got stuck in a trap? Ha!

Well I have to say other then Velma being a jerk again, I liked tonight's episode; Fred and Daphne are acting like a couple, which is cool and the villain being a bit unexpected, it was a good episode; I have to give it an 8 out of 10 on my scale of rating episodes by the way.

Looks like we'll have a hiatus yet again; if I am posting a new blog review next Monday, check it out, if not, come back when I am posting new blogs, until then see you all later.

This episode was horrible. Velma is a jerk and the bugs were way past the disgusting limit for scooby doo episodes.

New episodes are scheduled for the next 3 weeks, insofar as I know.

The writers, particularly Dan Krall, are having fun playing with the internet fans, or so it would seem.

Don't know about you, but I've got this feeling Mayor Jones' hate for Mystery Inc. could be just a front. Yah, I'm willing to guess he could secretly be Mr. E. He'd be the last guy anyone would think of, especially given the antipathy between father & son.

Mayor Jones knows something about the old Mystery Inc. He had a suspicious look in the first episode when Daphne asked about the magnify glass pendant. Maybe the parents and him are acually trying to protect the modern Mystert Inc from what happened to the previous one....

@Anonymous #2: Most of the theories i've heard agree with you; most people think that Mr. E is in fact Fred's dad, although we haven't seen Fred's mom any time in this series so I want to know what happened to her.

@Hobbyfan according to Cartoon Network's website, Monday is a rerun of Howl of the Fright Hound and according to Toonzone Forums, no new episodes are listed for SDMI for all of November.
And I completely agree with the Mayor Jones thing, he has to be involved somehow, plus I want to know where Fred's mom is, maybe she had something to do with the original Mystery Inc.'s dissapearance, or possibly she made some kind of deal with someone, or something, maybe the same thing that caused the original Mystery Inc. to dissapear, and possibly she's hiding somewhere or has the same kind of ablities that Professor Perciles has, which might be why the original MI vanished. Maybe her ablities caused the group to disband, because if they didn't, maybe she would have caused everyone else in the group harm or something.

Odd. November is a sweeps period, so you'd think CN would have new eps this month, but those idiots wouldn't know common sense if it came up and shook hands with them.

that is an interesting thing that Mr. E is Fred's dad, personally i have been really suspension of that Woman who runs the radio station that I guess Fred stays at....who is she any how?

I wonder if Fruitmyers is somehow connected to the original mystery. After all, he didn't exist until a few months before episode 1 aired, which means that he likely had a previous name.

Fred's dad is a likely suspect too, though I suppose the sheriff could also be involved: he did say that if Fred weren't his boss's son he'd have no problem making him disappear. He could be a lot smarter than he lets on.

In any case, I'm almost positive one of these three is Mr. E since they were the only ones (we know of) present when the locket was shown (besides the teacher, who seems an unlikely suspect).

I wonder if they're ever going to air episode 14. Most of January seems to be reruns too. I know there are only 13 episodes left, but I keep worrying that they'll cancel the series and leave us hanging.

Like i've mentioned before I agree with all the theories about Fred's Dad.

Now that I think of it all the theories about Fruitmeyer and the Sheriff might be correct too.

There is good news though: according to a couple websites including Toonzone Forums and TV.com(which are pretty reliable), the next episode is set to air January 31st and... will feature characters from several Scooby knock offs including Funky Phantom, Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, Jabberjaw and Speed Buggy.

Apparently all of them will meet Scooby and the gang at some sort of Mystery Solvers Competition at Crystal Cove High, which sounds pretty good to be honest :)

You wondered how Mr. E could have gotten his notes into Shaggy's bag of Nature Slivers? It helps if your message delivery man is the CEO of the company that makes the chips.

That's right -- take a second look at that golfing CEO. Notice that the other golfer calls him "Ed" and the credits give Richard McGonagle as "Ed Machine." In what other episodes does imdb say McGonagle did Ed Machine's voice? "The Legend of Alice May", "The Secret Serum",... yow!

This is strange stuff. Why is Mr. E using this CEO to do his dirty work? Or is Ed Machine only pretending to work for Mr. E, with some sinister motive of his own?

RocketSunner said...

I see you like fanfiction. I'm doing one now around my Ed Machine theories. It's called "The Ghost and the Machine" and it's under the Scooby section with the name "RockSunner."

Your "13 Ghosts" fictions look interesting. I liked the originals for their strong suggestions of Shaphne (they were living together), but I would like to see stories done with the original team and no Flim-Flam or Scrappy.

@RocketSunner: Yeah, I saw your fan fiction about your theory on Mr. E and I have to say its a very good thoery.

Either the CEO of Destroido is Mr. E or he's at the very least Mr. E's henchman, no doubt about it. Thank you on the 13 Ghosts fics by the way; I originally decided to write fan fiction because I got tired of seeing Scooby movies and TV shows where the plots were totally ridiculous, rehashes of old shows, or had endings that were completely stupid(SD and the Goblin King).

Plus I had plenty of story ideas and I wanted to share them with people. Who apparently like them a lot.
