Scooby Doo Mystery Inc Episode 2 Review

Hi again, I managed to catch last night's episode of Scooby Doo Mystery Incoporated "The Creeping Creatures", and the following is my review/blog of the episode; basically it will be a little different from a live blog, basically it will just be random thoughts I have about the episode, hopefully nobody minds and everybody enjoys it as usual.

I loved the mailman's reaction to getting caught in a Fred trap, I guess by the look on his face he's used to that sort of thing; the clincher though was the gang leaving Fred's house and getting caught in the trap.

Speaking of the trap, Traps Illustrated was awesome; "I just read it for the articles" LOL, yeah sure Fred, sure you do ;)

Those people in the car were completely dumb; "Are you sure this is New York?" and "Oh yeah, this is Broadway isn't it?", oh brother, how can people be that stupid

Gator Burg? Is that anywhere near the University Of Florida? Also, Velma's comment was priceless: "This is what happens when you base a civilization and economy entirely on gators", I guess nobody's told Velma about the University of Florida.

Shaggy, Shaggy, Shaggy, what are we going to do with you? "I never understand women", you and every man in America Shaggy

Mr. E sending the gang an imitation Gator Burg purse was interesting; he's starting to remind me a lot of Vincent Van Ghoul, only not as nice and working from the shadows, hey maybe he is the Shadow, do you think Mr. E's real name is Lamont Cranston?

Those gator burgers looked pretty nasty to me, I would not want to eat those; speaking of which, I would not want to get stranded in a place called Gator Burg overnight, or any time for that matter

Overall the parts of the episode that I saw reminded me a lot of the Gator Ghoul; although the gator creatures looked way more scary then the Gator Ghoul, on second thought it might be a tie
I must admit that stealing the Mystery Machine's engine is a great way to keep the gang in a scary place; i've seen some pretty interesting reasons for the gang to investigate a spooky place, like the radiator needing water, a flat tire, hitting a rock, etc. But stealing an engine? Wouldn't that be pretty heavy?

Great theme song and opening sequence for the show, it almost reminds me of the old soap opera Dark Shadows and it definitely gives the show a real creepy, spooky feeling to it

"Saved it for a rainy day?", jeez Mr. E either has a lousy sense of humor or he's really, really creepy

The Gator Wells? Gator Mines? How in the world can you mine gators?

Hey, a Galloping Ghost spotting in the flashback! Nice 70's HB Mystery reference

Sweet Christmas? Interesting phrase Velma, not as good as Jinkies, but still funny

"How about we go clue hunting Shaggy?"; Velma, you're going to have to try much harder to get through to Shaggy then that

Shaggy making his stomach talk, is both funny and very weird at the same time

"See that hole there, that's supposed to be an engine", no kidding Fred, no kidding

This mechanic definitely reminds me of Snakebite Scruggs from Scooby Doo on Zombie Island

Wait, wait, wait: Fred's dad, Daphne's mom and dad, Velma's folks and Shaggy's parents are all too busy to pick up their kids? Jeez, what neglectful parents, and what lousy excuses:
Fred's dad: My recliner is in the recline position, there's no going back? That's pretty lazy
Daphne's mom: I can't go walk in the dark? Jeez, what is she three?
Velma's mom: Our horse is in a race? Man, she better hope that horse wins or places so she can give Velma a large allowance next time around
Shaggy's folks: Still Life Night? Really? I mean come on!

The Drowsy Gator Inn? Where is the gang, Gator Burg or Gainesville, Florida?

WOW! The lights burning out in the hotel sign and saying "The Dog Dies", man that's straight out of Psycho; maybe this place is really the Bates Motel with a really good paint job

These Hotel owners are really creepy; plus their names are Greta and Gunther Gator? Gee, what a coincidence indeed

The hotel's sign is painted and it's broken? Sure it is

Hotel Owner: "Boys in girls in seperate rooms, no exceptions"
Velma: "Well Daphne, I guess i'm with you"
Hotel Owner: "I Said no exceptions!"
Velma: "But i'm a girl"
Hotel Owner: "Oh, so you are"
Did that hotel owner think Velma was a guy? That is freaking hillarious!

No Pets in the hotel? Dang, I feel really sorry for Scooby Doo right now

"I'm not a pet", again I feel sorry for Scooby Doo

"Stay in your rooms", yeah sure

Velma: "I forgot something", yeah sure Velma, you just want to hang out with Shaggy

A scrapbook of traps? Fred, you really are obsessed aren't you?

Man, the gators attacking Scooby Doo was pretty creepy; possibly one of the best scenes in a Scooby episode in a long time, considering that he was in real danger

Fred, Daphne and Scooby encountered the monster first? That's a twist

"There's no escape", Daphne, you have to think more positively

Shaggy and Velma were about to kiss but Scooby came in, oh well there's always the rest of the season, although it was a cute moment

These chase scenes are really well done, I must say

Shaggy saved Velma from the alligator, now that's bravery; I guess Shaggy doesn't always need a Scooby Snack to do something brave, maybe he just needs to see a girl he likes in danger, i.e. Velma

The alligator leg grabbing onto Velma and then Scooby saying "That's disgusting" is priceless

Fred: "Scooby, get behind the Wheel of the Mystery Machine"
Velma: "But it's broken"
Fred: "Which is exactly why we're going to push it!"
I guess that does make sense

Scooby driving the Mystery Machine? to quote the old Phil Hendrie Show: Comedy Gold!, although didn't he drive the Mystery Machine in a 1982 Scooby and Scrappy episode? Wait, that was him with Shaggy's brain, never mind

Suprisingly enough, Scooby's actually a good driver, I mean for a dog

"They weren't trying to eat us, they just wanted us out of town", well no kidding!

All the gator products are fake? Well I could have figured that out

Fred's trap was pretty simple, but pretty genius when you think about it

"Who are you calling a crocodile?" hillarious

Colt 45? I love that reference

The gator creatures were the mechanic, the hotel owner and her son? Well Duh! I could have figured that out

The Creeping Creatures? Ah, that explains the title of the episode

Shaggy explaining that their plan was dumb was pretty awesome, he actually can think of stuff on his own and he is pretty smart

Gunther Gator must be a reincarnated Dexter from Dexter's Labaratory, because that was the most complicated "And I would have gotten away with it..." ever

Sheriff: "I paid a fortune for this track suit", awesome, also "Get this stuff off me, this fake gator doesn't breathe", and of course: "Arrest them, even though I have no juristiction here!", man that sheriff really likes his job

Wait, wait, wait, Mr. E actually brought back the engine? Hmm, maybe this guy isn't as bad as I thought

"This is only one piece of the puzzle, there are more mysteries to come"? Man, this is really getting good now, although was there a clue revealed as to the curse of Crystal Cove or not?

And finally: Shaggy taking Velma's hand and the two of them looking at each other's eyes after Shaggy and Scooby shivered in fright was pretty sweet; I have to say I am really liking the Shelma so far

Well, that's it; overall the episode was decent, some great horror moments, some great humor, although there was a bit of a downer when it came to the mystery; overall on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the worst, 10 being the best, I give it a 7, not as good as last week's premiere, but still decent, I docked it a couple points for the mystery and the bad guys motives for comitting their crime.

Looking forward to next week which should be another good one; hopefully i'll get to do a live blog next Monday, and until then to quote Casey Kasem: "Keep Your Feet on the Ground and keep Reaching for the stars", and of course "Keep Your Computer right where it is", well okay it was "Keep your radio tuned right where it is" but I paraphrased.
