Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated Episode 20 Review

Well, it is once again Tuesday night, and we had another new episode of Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. Tonight's installment is called "The Siren's Song", and focuses a little bit(heck, a lot) on Velma, thereby giving her a lot of depth as far as her character goes.

I have to admit, I haven't thought about the blog much lately, mostly because I haven't been feeling all that great in the past couple of days, but I am going to try and do a regular blog, like I usually do every week at this time.

First, we have our SDMI canadian update: the update is the following: WOW!, HOLY CRAP! and WOW! again. I read the spoilers for episode 26 of SDMI and I have to say there are cliff hangars and suprises galore, but we'll get to that when it airs in the United States.

Now, onto tonight's episode: The Siren's Song. Kind of an interesting title actually, but it does have something to do with a siren, or a mermaid to be honest.

As we start tonight's episode, we see Velma at home, feeling like a third wheel, Fred and Daphne on a date, and Shaggy and Scooby doing whatever they do, mainly eating as much as possible.

With Fred and Daphne, we get to see a little more of the haunted museum, and two very familar faces. And who might they be? Flim Flam and Scrappy of course.

For Flim Flam, Daphne seems to recognize him, whilke Fred mentions he was at trapping camp the time that he was in Mystery Inc. Of course Daphne does manage to quip about 25 to Life being harsh, even fore a pre-teen con artist, so make of that what you will.

As for Scrappy... he gets a comment from Fred and Daphne. Fred's being I thought we weren't going to talk about him again. Daphne maybe likes him better, or maybe not, who really knows.

Meanwhile, Velma is at home, and is writing a blog(sounds familiar huh?) and gets a tip about a mystery. This one though involves a haunted oil patform, fish freaks and some interesting revelations.

For instance, after getting together with the gang, more pieces to this mystery are revealed. Like the fact that Skipper Shelton has 4 brothers(once again: sound familar huh?) and there's apparently a plan to drill for oil at the platform by Destroido(where have we heard that name before?).

The mystery goes along, with the usual stuff, until we find out things about the case that are very interesting. Like once we get the unmaskings taken care of, we find out that the fish freaks are the protestors and Ernesto from Shreking Madness.

We also get to see Velma meeting a friend, like a mermaid believe it or not. But the mermaid isn't a mermaid at all, her name is Amy and she is the wife of a scientist who was working on Destroido or more specifically their staff years ago.

But the suprises continue: apparently Angel Dynamite said a few things that were suspicious, like the fact that she knowns something about Destroido and the attempts to drill for oil at a place called Dead Man's Point.

However, Velma manages to see through Angel's lies and figures out she is Cassidy Williams, a member of the original Mystery Inc. However, she doesn't seem to deny it, and seems to not want to tell Velma the truth, despite the fact that Velma really seems to know what's going on.

Is she in fact lying or telling the truth? And does Angel really know more then she lets on? We'll find out next week in episode 21 of SDMI.

Meanwhile, I give this episode a 8.8; not a bad episode, and defintely supernatural in some cases. But not much Mr. E advancement, although we will get to see some of that next week.

I shall close the blog for now, but i'll be back next week with more. And trust me, the secrets, mysteries and villains get more interesting and more frightening with each passing week.

I liked the way Velma challenged Angel in the end, leaving the episode with a cliffhanger. Slick. :)

Now, that's how you do a cliffhanger. Very "Law & Order"-like.

How about a shout-out to Tia Carrere (ex-"Relic Hunter") as Amy? People forget the lady can sing ("Wayne's World", anyone?).

Now, can we just smarten Fred up and bring him back to his original characterization, instead of dumbing him down like he has the last 9 years?

Methinks that'll happen VERY soon... >:)

@sagg and hobbyfan: I loved the cliffhanger, like I've been thinking ever since last week: that is the way to do a cliff hanger, especially on a show like Scooby Doo.

*Slaps forhead in disgust* Oh yeah, I forgot about Tia Carrere. I didn't even know that was her to be honest; actually it wasn't her first Scooby voice appearance.

Remember, she was Snookie in Aloha Scooby Doo as well. By the way, not related to this episode, but the mermaid's look in this episode wasn't that impressive. I know they're trying to make the episode and show scary, but why can't they make her like Ariel?

At least if Amy looked like a typical mermaid, she might have been more believable, but that's just me.
